Voting for Trump—Is This What You Really Want?

I can’t know whether persons who vote for Donald Trump are morons, nor am I calling them that. I do, however, posit that, to vote for Trump, is to promote moral depravity, all intelligence and intentions aside.

I don’t think either of my friends in this discussion are themselves morally depraved or morons. I do insist that the effect of a vote for Trump, regardless of intentions/motivations, is to foster moral depravity, no matter how good a person you regard yourself.

The following words and actions of Trump are documented:

• Trump has advocated that grabbing women by the genitals is a worthy and laudable pursuit. He further has ridiculed a woman on a worldwide public stage for her biological capacity to menstruate.

• Trump openly and unapologetically separates children from their parents, holds them captive, and does not reunite them with their parents.

• Trump has enlisted federal agents to teargas Americans for his own political opportunity and to abduct citizens from the street without charges, habeas corpus, or accountability.

• Trump has made aid to the Ukraine contingent on that country’s producing political dirt on Vice-President Joe Biden.

• Trump continues to spread the CoVid-19 virus to large groups of people.

• Trump has said about the CoVID deaths of 225,000 (and counting) Americans that “It is what it is.”

• Trump continues to make aid to CoVID-stricken states contingent on loyalty to him.

• Trump has praised vicious dictator, Kim Jong Un, as “the head of a country — and I mean he’s the strong head. He speaks and his people sit up in attention. I want my people to do the same.”

• Trump has allowed foreign agents to kill American soldiers, with no response or accountability.

• Trump calls American soldiers “suckers” and “losers,” and has mocked Vietnam POW, John McCain, for being captured.

• Trump promotes removal of healthcare for LGBTQIA+ persons.

• Trump daily tweets insults and character assassinations of other persons (in much worse terms than “morons”).

• Trump calls upon white supremacist groups to “stand by” even as he declares that he won’t accept an election result other than his victory.

The common theme of these actions and statements (and more) is their disregard for the rule of law according to the terms of our federated republic as outlined in the Constitution and other founding documents, legislation, and legal precedent.

no matter the results you desire, your promotion of Donald Trump, clothespin on your nose and blinders on your eyes, results in the dehumanization of whole groups of Americans, the promotion of dictators who terrorize and slaughter their people, and the mocking of others who, carrying out their own laudable pursuits, are used as “expendable” tools for the promotion of what you want.

You may say, as my friend above does, that you don’t condone Trump’s “name calling.” That you support Trump for his promotion of causes that you think are right and not morally depraved. That advancing these causes necessitates your looking the other way at the above-listed depravities.

But the effect of your vote for Trump is that these policies, words, and actions will continue and multiply. You are therefore saying that what you perceive as a laudable end justifies these depraved means. Every soup has a fly or two.

Yet, we aren’t talking flies. Trump’s policies, words, and actions denigrate, harm, and kill innocent persons and besmirch the character of the American experiment. I want you to see this clearly: no matter the results you desire, your promotion of Donald Trump, clothespin on your nose and blinders on your eyes, results in the dehumanization of whole groups of Americans, the promotion of dictators who terrorize and slaughter their people, and the mocking of others who, carrying out their own laudable pursuits, are used as “expendable” tools for the promotion of what you want.

You hurt people to get what you want.

the effect of your vote for Trump is that these policies, words, and actions will continue and multiply. You are therefore saying that what you perceive as laudable ends justifies these depraved means.

You may not be full of hatred, racism, misogyny. You may not admire tyrants. You may respect the rule of law and adhere to the human rights expounded by brave Americans for nearly 250 years. You may even think yourself brave and persecuted for these ends you advance.

What you think doesn’t matter. For you know, after four years of Trump’s words, policies, and actions, that he meant what he said in 2016. That he wasn’t grandstanding. That he has done these heinous deeds, and more.

I don’t ask you to defend your vote. I merely say that, to vote for this man, is to continue and multiply these moral depravities.

I’m a concerned American who is spelling out what your vote, your lawn signs, your blue-line flags, your MAGA hats, and more are pushing to continue—moral depravity that attacks children, the outcast, those suffering under tyrannical regimes, and the values Americans have upheld, with their blood, for 250+ years.

What you think doesn’t matter. For you know, after four years of Trump’s words, policies, and actions, that he meant what he said in 2016. That he wasn’t grandstanding. That he has done these heinous deeds, and more.

Vote your conscience.

But do so with a full consciousness of what you are advancing.

Either you want it all. Or you don’t. You can’t have it both ways. To get what you want, you are harming and killing people.

That doesn’t make you a moron, but something worse. Something only you can decide to embrace, or to pause at the precipice and ask, “Is this what I want? Is this what I’ve come to think is good, right, and true?”
